The most unique wine collection in the world stolen from Ulriksdals Wärdshus in Solna, Sweden
The night between Saturday July 22nd and Sunday 23rd, 2006, our complete collection of Bordeaux wines was stolen. The collection consisted of wine bottles from the six Grand Cru castles; Château Lafite Rotschild, Château Mouton Rotschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Château Haut Brion and Château d’Yquem. Altogether the collection consisted of over 600 bottles of wine, almost every vintage from the 20th Century. The collection has been registered in the Guiness Book of Records for years, as the most unique wine collection in the world
The heist was obviously very well planned. The thieves started by cutting off the alarm system to the Inn. They then broke in to the house through a kitchen door, dismounted the sirens for the alarm and broke in to the wine cellar through an armed door. They packed the 600 wine bottles into boxes and carried them up from the cellar and packed them into a van outside the garden entrance. They also managed to get a hold of the tape from the surveillance camera and disappeared.
According to the police, the thieves have not left any fingerprints as they have been using gloves. The value of such a wine collection would be approximately 3,5 million SEK on the open market. This wine collection obviously has to be quite hard to sell, as it is a very unique collection. But as often when it comes to this type of burglary, it could be an unscrupulous wine collector who has been willing to use unlawful methods.
